Solar Eclipse 2026

On 12 August 2026, Ireland will experience a deep partial solar eclipse as the Moon passes in front of the Sun in the early evening. The path of totality passes over Greenland, Iceland and Spain, but observers across Ireland will see up to 97% of the Sun covered, with the deepest coverage in the south-west. Local start times are shown below for Dublin, Galway, Wexford and Kerry. Never look directly at the Sun without certified eclipse-viewing glasses (ISO 12312-2) — ordinary sunglasses are not safe, even during a deep partial eclipse.
